Therapeutic Boarding Schools

Therapeutic boarding schools run year-round, are accredited academic schools, and offer rolling admission. This makes it possible for students to recover lost credits or time, if needed, and to get back on track to complete their high school curriculum. Many of the best therapeutic schools require “readiness for change” as a precursor to being accepted for admission. This usually means the student will have successfully participated in a wilderness program or has the insight or willingness to do the work necessary to begin the process of “change.” There is usually a strong emphasis on both group/peer interaction, as well as individual and family counseling. The average length of stay is 12-18 months. Home visits increase and structure is gradually reduced with progress. A good therapeutic boarding school will use a combination of a positive milieu culture, group, individual and family therapy and solid academics to effect lasting change. Our therapeutic boarding school clients present impressively through the college application process, and often demonstrate maturity beyond their peers.
